Since the arrival of European settlers, North America's prairie dog population has plummeted by 98 percent. Prairie dogs have been exterminated because of the perceived competition with grazing cattle and bison for grasses. New studies indicate that prairie dogs do not drastically affect the amount of vegetation available for cattle. Joy-Vernon

Rick on our ATV outing today, June 7, 2010. We will be staying "at home" to be there for Eastie when she has her puppies & for awhile after they are born. Joy-Vernon

Eastie and Darby are proud to announce the birth of their daughter at 12:30 PM today, June 10, 2010. We are calling her, D-eastie Eastie is so thrilled that she can also announce that Deastie is the "Whitest puppy in the West". I took this photo when Deastie was only minutes old. Joy-Vernon

Always rabbits out back, but this one looks like a new, (young) rabbit to me...Joy-Vernon

The male Mourning Dove has been coming alone to the bird bath. I am hoping his soul mate is sitting on a nest...that nothing has happened to her. Joy-Vernon

Male Grosbeak today, June 9, 2010. The Humming Birds and the Orioles seem to be going after the nectar in the Red Hot Pokers. I am watching the Grosbeaks tear away at the yellow part of the pokers, as if they are eating it! Joy-Vernon
