![]() This lovely Mourning Dove couple are coming to one of our bird baths several times a day. They mate for life & can live for ten years in the wild. In some states they are considered "game birds". It distresses me that hunters shoot them for a "bite" size breast...one dove, two bites! They are very similar to the Passenger Pigeon that became extinct.. primarily because pigeon meat was commercialized as a cheap food for salves and the poor in the 19th century, resulting in hunting them on a massive scale. ![]() We took off on a quick ATV trip West & N.W. of our home out here in the wilderness today, as we are going to be "struck in residence" for some time. Eastie will have her puppies any time, so we won't be leaving our homestead for awhile. This was one of the photographs I took from the ATV. today, June 7, 2010 Joy-Vernon |

![]() We explored an area we had never traveled before, on our way to where we know of prairie dog towns that I wanted to see. I thought this house was magical, enchanting little house. Joy-Vernon |
![]() What a magical location...in the middle of no where, with an awesome view! Joy-Vernon |
We know of an area north west of our home where there are prairie dog towns. They are precious to me! Prairie dogs are social animals and often make social visits with each other.. greeting each other with a sort of kiss. This was obviously a sentinel. Joy-Vernon |
