McHood Park

Winslow has a library, a bowling alley, five parks, an indoor swimming pool, an outdoor pool, one nine-hole golf course, and several basketball, racquetball and tennis courts. Athletic facilities also include rodeo grounds, football and baseball fields. There are organized athletic programs, such as youth football, basketball, baseball, softball, bowling, swimming, golf and soccer; adult softball, bowling, and square dancing. There are a senior center with adjacent park and McHood City Park with pavilion and seating ramada for 200 persons.

Communication

In addition to communication resources from the rest of the state, Winslow has a semi-weekly newspaper, The Winslow Mail, a local radio station and numerous statewide radio, television and cable stations.

Education

graduation capThere are three elementary schools, one junior high school, one high school and one charter public school. School enrollment is more than 2,800 students. A special education department is available as are an audio visual director, a speech therapist, a psychologist and a hearing specialist.

Northland Pioneer College (NPC), a nationally-accredited, state-supported community college, began serving Navajo County during the 1974-75 academic year. The College is decentralized and now offers classes in over 250 locations. Full-service degree-granting campuses are located in Winslow, Holbrook, Snowflake/Taylor and Show Low. Degree course work may also be completed at centers in Heber, Whiteriver and Keams Canyon. The district office is located in Holbrook. Areas of study include adult basic education, vocational, academic transfer and personal interest. For information call (800) 266-7845. Northern Arizona University, located within 60 miles, in cooperation with NPC, offers upper division and graduate courses at several Navajo County locations. Medical

medical staff An Indian Outpatient Clinic has full health services. A hospital with 34 beds, a convalescent home with 38 beds, three clinics, five physicians, six dentists, two optometrists and three chiropractors provide medical service to the community.

Financial

Three banks and two credit unions operate in Winslow. Winslow businesses are eligible for assistance in financing fixed assets through the Finance Division of the Arizona Department of Commerce. Governmental

government buildingWinslow is governed by a mayor, six council members, and a city administrator and is served by the sheriff's department and the local police department. The fire department has both full-time and part-time personnel.
