Fishing Report 08-20-10

THE WHITE MOUNTAINS LAKES

Becker Lake: Fishing is fair for large rainbow trout. Try nymphs and small midges. Becker is open to artificial lure and fly only, barbless hooks and a 2 trout bag limit. Boat ramps are usable , small mouth bass and trout can be caught on lures and , Lake is open to electric trolling motors and or up to 10 hp gas motors.

Big Lake: Fishing is fair to good. Try spinners and worms. Bank anglers should fish off rocky points. Boat anglers should try cowbells and spinners with worms. Hwy 261 from Eager and Forest road 249 from Alpine are open.

CARNERO LAKE Fishing is very good for rainbow trout. This lake is best fished from a tube with flies.

Concho Lake:   Fishing is poor . Lake level is very low

Crescent Lake: Fishing is good. Try worms and power bait off rocky points.

Fool Hollow Lake: Fishing is fair. Water levels are low.  Boat ramps are usable. Anglers have been catching smallmouth bass, trout, and walleye on lures and night crawlers, catfish on chicken liver .

Greer Lakes: Fishing is fair at all greer lakes. Boat ramps are closed on the River. Try worms, salmon eggs, Power Bait, lures such as spinners, Z-rays, Super Dupers, and Rapalas, and flies such as peacock ladies, wooly worms, wooly buggers, and small nymphs. Bunch and Tunnel Reservoir are open to electric trolling motors only. River Reservoir is open to electric trolling motors and/or up to 10 hp gas motors.

Hulsey Lake: Fishing is fair to good, trout has been caught on night crawlers z rays and spinners .  Lake is open to electric trolling motors only, but small boats would have to be carried down the short hiking trail to the lake.

Lee Valley Reservoir: Fishing is poor to fair. Apache trout and grayling have been biting on nymphs. Lots of algae on the lake. This lake is open to lures and flies only with a 2 trout limit

Luna Lake: Fishing is poor. The fishing is slow following a small fish kill in mid-July. Try fishing early in the morning about 8-10 feet deep.

Lyman Lake: The lake is now open. Try worms and chicken liver for catfish. Try lures and worms for bass sunfish and walleye.

Nelson Reservoir: Fishing fair. Fishing bag limits have changed back to the statewide bag and posession limit of 6 trout from April 1 through August 31. The boat ramps on the eastern part of the lake and at the dam are usable. Try worms, Power Bait, salmon eggs, lures such as spinners, Super Dupers, Z-rays, and Rapalas, and flies such as wooly worms or wooly buggers, and peacock ladies. The lake is open to electric trolling motors and/or up to 10hp. gas motors. The water temperature last week was 50 degrees.

Rainbow Lake: Fishing is poor. Lots of algae. The boat ramp is usable. Try worms, Power Bait, salmon eggs, lures such as Z-rays, spinners, crank baits, and Rapalas, and flies such as wooly worms or wooly buggers, and peacock ladies. The lake is open to electric trolling motors and/or up to 10hp. gas motors. The water is clear.

Scott's Reservoir: Fishing is fair. Try worms for trout and catfish.

Show Low Lake: Fishing is fair.  Try worms, Power Bait, and salmon eggs, lures such as spinners, rubber lead head jigs, crankbaits, and Rapalas, and flies such as wooly worms or wooly buggers, and peacock ladies. The lake is open to electric trolling motors and/or up to 10hp. gas motors. The water temperature last week was 54 degrees.

· Woodland Lake: Fishing is good. The lake is full and the boat ramp is accessible. New regulations went into effect at Woodland Lake on Jan 1 2009 reducing the daily bag and posession limit to 4 trout. Try worms, Power Bait, and salmon eggs, lures such as spinners, Super Dupers, and small spoons, and flies such as wooly worms or wooly buggers, peacock ladies, prince nymphs, zug bugs, and Hares ears nymphs. The lake is open to electric trolling motors only.

White Mountain Streams

Little Colorado River Greer: the stream is running high with snow melt, Fishing is poor

Sheep’s Crossing: inaccessible

East Fork, Black River: fishing is poor to fair.

West Fork Black River: the stream is running high with snow melt runoff, Try drifting worms through pools, spinners, Rapalas or streamers for the resident brown trout

Silver Creek: fishing is fair to good. Open to lures, flies and bait with daily bag and possession limit of 6 trout April 1st to Sept 30th . The upper section is closed to fishing at this time

Reservation Waters

A 1 Lake: Fishig is fair, Lake is ice free and full.

Big Bear: Fishing is Good, access is good. Try nightcrawlers, corn or salmon eggs.

Bootleg Lake: Fishing is Fair

Christmas Tree Lake: requires reservations

Cooley Lake: Fishing is fair, Water is clear.

Drift Fence Lake: Fishing is Fair

Earl Park Lake: No Access

Hawley Lake: Fishing is good

Horseshoe Lake: Fishing is Good, Boat ramp and campgrounds are accessible,

Little Bear Lake: Fishing is Good, Boat ramp access is good, Water Clarity is low

Pacheta Lake: Fishing is fair, Catch and release with single barbless hook only

Reservation : no road access

Sunrise Lake: Fishing is good. Lake is ice-free try nightcrawlers, salmon eggs, rainbow powerbair, roster tails or kastmasters.

THE RIM LAKES

Bear Canyon Lake: Roads are closed

 

Black Canyon: Fishing is fair for stocked trout.  Try worms and Power Bait. This lake also contains largemouth bass and green sunfish.

Chevelon Lake:  Forest Road 169 is open from the south via the rim road or from the north via forest road 504 Float tube anglers are reporting catches of small and a few 12-14 inch rainbow and 16 to 19 inch brown trout. The lake is open to artificial lures and flies only and trout between 10 and 14 inches may not be possessed. The daily  bag and possession limit is 6 trout.

Woods Canyon: Fishing is fair to Good for stock trout. This lake was stocked last week. Large incentive (1-8 pound) rainbow trout were stocked in early July. The lake is accessible and the store is open. Try rebel crankbaits, worms, super dupers, power bait.

Green Valley Lake: No Report.
