![]() Some of the ducks (and geese) around the White Mountains are "mutants", duck hybrids of domestic ducks & geese. If you see a weird duck a park, walking around on the grass or coming near people, it is probably a domestic duck. Here is a domestic white/wild duck yesterday, April 7, 2010, at Rainbow Lake with a mutant friend. Joy-Vernon |

![]() As the self appointed, amateur, "Bird Lady of Vernon", I am guessing this duck is a hybrid, mutant of a wild Mallard and a Polish (domestic) duck. Notice the tuff on feathers on the back of his head. A male, but is he a Mallard Drake or half a drake? Joy-Vernon |
![]() Hybrid/Mutant ducks--(the one in the forefront is eating the cooked asparagus stems I was feeding the ducks 4-7-10). The American Coots in the background are not ducks...They don't have webbed feet! The one on the left was diving. Joy-Vernon |
