New Years Eve 2010, Greer, Arizona where we went to celebrate the new year. It was cold! This abandoned blue cabin on Main Street caught my eye because of the ice cycles. Joy-Vernon

This what I saw while walking in Mesa this morning! Dick Parks, Forest Lakes

Eastie watching a Juniper Titmouse. The word titmouse descends from the Old English terms, tit (any small animal or object) and mase (small bird), essentially meaning one small, small bird. I think it possesses an understated, "drab charm". Joy-Vernon

Why is this Titmouse, adorable, doll-eyed songbird so often ignored? (Not by me!) With a name like Titmouse, it's a safe bet that no sports teams will be named for it. These hardy little songbirds reside in our area year-round Joy-Vernon

A rabbit (one of several today) and Chipper (the chipmunk) were eating at the same time today. Eastie, Westie and I enjoyed just watching all the critters and birds. 1/5/2010 Joy Vernon

Not only are the Titmice sociable with other birds, particularly chickadees and nuthatches (their cousins); but they hardly mind the presence of people. Joy-Vernon

Scrub Jay in our Albuquerque house, getting a pecan. Joy-Vernon

In urban areas Western Scrub Jays can become very tame. At our Albuquerque home, they would take peanuts from my hands & they would come into the house anytime I opened the door for them to come in our den & pick out pecans from this basket. I took this photo before dig cameras of one of them. Joy-Vernon

A Western Scrub-Jay 1-8-2010. These jays are non-migratory...we have them around all the time. They love peanuts and sunflower seeds! Joy-Vernon
