![]() White-breasted Nuthatch one of 17 worldwide species of nuthatches. We have been attracting more & more of them in Vernon. They particularly like the suet feeders. Joy-Vernon |
![]() Although these nuthatches are tamer than a lot of the species of birds out here in Vernon, it is still difficult to take their photographs as they are so busy hopping up and down the humming bird tree, flitting all over the place. Joy-Vernon |
![]() This is the first year the nuthatches have used one of the bird houses Rick built. I took this photo a few minutes ago. This bird house is on the side of one of Rick's sheds. The nuthatch has a caterpillar to feed its young. May 20, 2010 Joy-Vernon |

![]() Too cute! One of the parents is "peeking out" of their house today after it had fed that caterpillar to its fledglings. Both the male & female share construction of their nest & they both feed their young. Today, May 20, 2010 Joy-Vernon |

![]() This is a photo of the Magdalena Mountains I took today while driving through Magdalena, N.M. on Hwy. 60. We stayed on Hwy. 60, went around the mountains and drove up to the highest peak you can see in this photo...South Baldy at 10, 783. It was very windy, so the photo is not clear. Looking down you can see the winding, mountain road we were driving UP to South Baldy in the Magdalena Mountains. Awesome views even though the wind caused the sky not to be as clear as usual. May 23, 2010 Joy-Vernon |
