Two days ago...Three bird baths are filled with Western Blue Birds at the same time. October 27, 2009 Joy-Vernon

One of about one hundred Robins that flock to our trees and bird baths. This one has our view of the White Mountains in the background. Joy-Vernon

First snowfall of the season...do I win a prize? Eastie and Westie are running around playing. I think that is Eastie on the right. They run so fast it is difficult to photograph them! Rick is asleep. Tuesday night 11:30 PM October 27, 2009 Joy in Vernon

That is Eastie on the right with the pink ears. It is almost midnight, but Eastie & Westie are excited about the snowfall. They were happy to have their water proof coats put on. Joy-Vernon

Westie on the right...midnight. It is still snowing. I have filled the bird feeders, so the birds will have plenty to eat in the morning--October 28, 2009 Joy-Vernon

White-breasted Nuthatch--although the bird book states these nuthatches are year round residents of our area, we have not seen them until this year. Note the extra-long hind toe claw or nail. It is nearly twice the size of the front toe claws. The White-breasted Nuthatch has incredible climbing agility due to this claw. I took this photo today, October 28, 2009. Joy-Vernon
