September 21, 2009--A Western Tanager couple taking a bath. Like Orioles, Tanagers eat insects and fruit and don't come to our seed feeders. Joy-Vernon

As the self appointed "Bird Lady of Vernon", I was frustrated not to know that these yellow birds are Western Tanagers. Thanks to friends, I learned they are migrating Western Tanagers. This is the first year we have had them coming to our bird baths. This male has a tiny bit of orange left over from his summer, breeding red head. Joy-Vernon

The Western Tanagers may have just been passing through on a migration, as I haven't seen them any more. A stunning bird to blend in with "Yellow Flower Season". Joy-Vernon
