My Bird Book says Scrub Jays form long term pair bond. Young of a pair stay close by for up to a couple of years, helping to raise subsequent brothers and sisters. No wonder they travel in groups of five or more...they are "families. I am not sure which is male and which is female in this photo, but this is a "couple", with one watching the other bath from the rock above. Photo taken June 9, 2009 Joy-Vernon
