An American Avocet at Pintail Lake, walking in what little water the lake has in this drought. Mother's Day 2009-- Joy in Vernon

Jae's bird at the Hummingbird feeder was a Scott's Oriole. It eats insects, fruit and nectar (not bird seed). It is known to come to "nectar feeders". We have insects out here in Vernon, but no fruit and the few Orioles we have seen have not known to come to our humming bird feeders. The nectar they drink is the same recipe for Hummers...one part sugar to four parts water. I took this photo on May 2, 2009 Joy in Vernon

Scott's Oriole taking a drink of water by sticking it's entire head in the water. It was not bathing! Joy- Vernon

There were about 50 elk in this herd on a remote dirt road near Fence Lake, New Mexico, but they were dispersed. No fishing in the non-lake in Fence Lake, but there are elk! Joy-Vernon
