The community offers a broad range of facilities including museums, a library, senior citizens center, an Olympic-size swimming pool, 10 roping arenas, two rodeo arenas, one golf course, and three parks with four lighted tennis courts, basketball, volleyball and racquetball courts, picnic and barbecue areas, and an amphitheater. Pioneer Days, one of the two largest events in Snowflake, is held as near to Founders Day (July 24) as possible.

Pioneer homes are open for tours with the residents adding to the pioneer spirit by wearing costumes. An arts and crafts street fair, barbecues, dances, rodeos and fireworks are among the many community-sponsored activities planned for this special celebration. Featured attractions include softball and golf tournaments. Snowflake also hosts an annual Ground Hog Breakfast on the closest Saturday to Groundhog Day, February 2.

Communication
In addition to communication resources from the rest of the state, Snowflake has newspapers and radio stations from Show Low and Holbrook, and 20 television channels via cable and antenna.
Education

There are four public elementary schools, one junior high school and one high school in the Snowflake/Taylor area. School enrollment is more than 2,700 students.

Northland Pioneer College, a nationally-accredited, state-supported community college, began serving Navajo County during the 1974-75 academic year. The College is decentralized and now offers classes in over 250 locations. Full-service degree-granting campuses are located in Winslow, Holbrook, Snowflake/Taylor and Show Low. Degree course work may also be completed at centers in Heber, Whiteriver and Keams Canyon. The district office is located in Holbrook. Areas of study include adult basic education, vocational, academic transfer and personal interest. For information call (800) 266-7845. Northern Arizona University, located within 60 miles, in cooperation with NPC, offers upper division and graduate courses at several Navajo County locations. Medical

There are two medical clinics, four physicians, three chiropractors, three dentists, one part-time optometrist, and two ambulances serving Snowflake and Taylor. Complete medical facilities are available in Show Low, 19 miles south.

Financial

There are two financial institutions in the area: Norwest Bank in Snowflake and Frontier State Bank in Taylor. The Northern Arizona Council of Governments (NACOG) located in Flagstaff services this area with a Revolving Loan Program for new and existing businesses. Inquiries can be made through WMRDC, 1201 E. Cooley Suite F, Show Low, AZ 85901. The Navajo County Industrial Development Authority handles information related to industrial development bonds. Inquiries can be made through the Navajo County IDBA, 819 W. Florida, Holbrook, AZ 86025. Additionally, Navajo County businesses are eligible for assistance in financing fixed assets through the Arizona Department of Commerce Finance Division.

Governmental

The community is governed by a mayor, six council members and a town manager. There is local police protection and fire department. There is local police protection and the fire department has 20 volunteers and six reserves.

There are two motels with 66 units in the area and several meeting facilities with the largest seating 1,000; there are eight trailer parks and one R.V. park.
